Your safety is our top priority and we want you to feel as comfortable as possible during your early days at our centre. We will look to review any medication you are currently taking, alongside any other substances you may be struggling with. With opiates and benzodiazepines, you become dependent on having the substance in your body to function normally. This is called physical dependence. Most drugs cause uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms when you stop, but with these drugs, you’d be at risk during the detoxification process if you weren’t medically supervised. Medication helps to ease the worst of your symptoms, and we gradually ease you off the medication as your body gets used to not having the substance.
Psychotherapy
You’ll take part in a mixture of group and individual therapies. These therapy sessions are chosen based on your specific requirements. They will help you to calm down and relax without the need for drugs.
CBT is a talking therapy that has proven to be very useful in helping to address the emotional and mental aspects of compulsive behaviour and certain mental illnesses. DBT is a highly specialized form of therapy that we offer to some patients. It was originally devised to treat borderline personality disorder, which is characterized by strongly entrenched negative self-beliefs. DBT proved to be most helpful in preventing recurring suicidal thoughts that are often present in that illness. Recent practice has shown this method can be extremely helpful if you’ve suffered from repeated relapses and are struggling to find a suitable treatment.
